Website Changes

Sunnyvale - This Week's Top Location

Just checking blog stats and see that my top location for this past week is SUNNYVALE, CA.

I love Sunnyvale, having spent some teenage summers there. I enjoyed working and playing there, escaping the Midwest heat and the parents!

Big Thanks to all those in Sunnyvale who've been checking out my blog and website.

Tammy

Building an Author's Platform

I spent last weekend working on my author's platform. This includes my website, my blog, Facebook, and Twitter.

I'm relatively new to Twitter and still learning the jargon and practices of active Tweeters. My suggestion to anyone just starting with Twitter is to find a mentor. Find someone who posts interesting Tweets, someone who has a large (and legitimate following), someone who is in a field similar to yours. Follow them and mimic what they do.

I don't advise buying followers. It's seems shady and if you are trying to establish a genuine media presence, why would you want to jeopardize your authenticity and integrity for made-up followers who will ultimately not help your cause? Imaginary followers do not tweet, retweet, or like. They do not interact, they bring nothing to the table except for adding one tiny number to your following.

Consistency seems to be important as well. An active presence reminds me of your existence. In the case of Twitter, absence does not make the heart fonder. Absence makes people forget you.

Content is probably the most important feature of the entire platform. It's necessary to provide something of value to your followers. Value can come in the form of interesting information, educational info, humor, advice or feedback.

Be yourself, be real, be honest.
If you build a platform, they (followers) will come.

Twitter? Lots of Qs, but no answers.

Just signed up for Twitter. I've tweeted five times about some fairly random subjects. I'm not certain how best to use Twitter to gain a following. So far, it seems that I've attracted a few followers by doing nothing of value. I believe they either want to sell me something or are hookers, which would still want to sell me something, but they've got the wrong market.

I would love to hear from anyone who uses Twitter, and can give me a clue as to what I should be doing.

Thanks.

Thank You to the Netherlands and Denmark

I love the internet and my website! I've been revamping and discovered some new tracking features. Amazingly, I'm getting lots of views from people in the Netherlands and Denmark. I'm not sure what prompted it, but a very big THANK YOU!

Writing publicly means putting yourself out into the world. There's always a chance for rejection, but there's an equal chance you'll be embraced, and you'll always end up learning something. I know I do.

I recently finished reading The Angel's Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafón. I enjoyed it and was pleasantly surprised when there were twists I hadn't anticipated.

I'm currently reading The Guardian by Nicolas Sparks. This novel is quite the departure for me, but my daughter recommended it. So far, I've been pleased that it's not just a tear-jerking romance, but a suspenseful story as well. I'll let you know what I think when I'm finished.

I finished re-reading Pox: Genius, Madness, and the Mysteries of Syphilis by Deborah Hayden. Don't let the title scare you. It's creative non-fiction that's historical and seriously interesting. I highly recommend it.

Last, but not least, I'm reading The Book of Destiny: Unlocking the Secrets of the Ancient Mayans and the Prophecy of 2012 by Carlos Barrios who is a  Shaman and member of the Mayan Elders Council. Since I have a Masters Degree in Spanish, I am all over this book. It took me twenty-three years before I made it to Chichén Itzá, but I did it. The calendars, codices and pyramids have been a fascination for me since I was fourteen. This book is not one of the "chicken little" types that declares the sky is falling, but explains and describes Mayan beliefs in an understandable way. This is another recommended read for anyone interested in Mesoamerica culture and the 2012 predictions we've been hearing about for some time now.

Spring Cleaning- Revamping the Website

Working to revamp the website. Going to make it easier to view and give it a spring cleaning. Be sure to visit again soon and let me know what you think of the changes.

Can't Reply Via Blog

I really, really want to reply to the comments I'm receiving via my Blog. There's something up with the system, but I can't get tech people on the phone until Monday. Please keep commenting as I am reading and desperately trying to respond.

Computer Crashed

My computer crashed so updating Page & Paragraph might be a bit sporadic until I can get the situation fixed.

A New Name For My Blog!

Page & Paragraph

After much debate and deliberation, my Blog now has a name! Much like naming a child, it had to have a nomenclature it could grow into and be proud of.

I've chosen to go with the building blocks of a novel. Yes, it starts with an idea, then a few words that lead to a sentence, that grows to a paragraph that swells to a page and ultimately, becomes a novel.

What do you think? Do it have that certain something? Does it zing?
